A 20-year-old woman has died following a single vehicle crash at Kamerunga, in Cairns, early this morning.
At approximately 3.45am on Kamerunga Road, initial investigations indicate a Mitsubishi Lancer has struck a tree before travelling down an embankment near the intersection with Stoney Creek Road.
A 20-year-old Atherton woman, the driver of the vehicle, died at the scene.
A 22-year-old Smithfield man, a passenger in the vehicle, was transported to Cairns Hospital in a stable condition.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the crash.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen driver’s red Mitsubishi Lancer in the area at the time, or who may have relevant dash-cam footage, to contact them.
