John Davis, a retired resident of Moore Park Beach, Bundaberg, experienced a severe injury on 31 July 2018. While attempting to assist a stranger launch a boat at Booyan boat ramp, a rope severed John’s hand. He was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where his hand was successfully reattached. John was assessed by Dr. Cameron Mackay with a 61% Whole Person Impairment (WPI) and a 4% Permanent Impairment Rating Scale (PIRS) by Dr. Mathew, psychiatrist. The claim, managed by lawyer David Shannon, was settled at a conference for $900,000 plus costs assessed at $170,708.72, totaling $1,070,708.72.
