Mitchell was a pick packer when due to a colleague having a stroke, he had to adjust his duties to repetitively bend, twist and lift manually items weighing from 1kg to 50kg whilst experiencing pressure to work quickly. Mitchell previously would be given a rotation of duties but due to no replacement being hired for his colleague, he was unable to rotate duties.
He developed back pain in March 2019 which developed into such serious pain that he attended his doctor in September 2019.
