Introduction
Princess Cruises has announced itinerary modifications for four upcoming Regal Princess sailings to accommodate essential engine repairs and preventative maintenance. The changes affect Western Caribbean itineraries departing from Galveston, Texas, and include port cancellations and adjusted overnight stays.
Details of the Incident
The affected sailings are scheduled for December 8th, January 5th, January 12th, and January 19th, 2025. The following changes have been implemented:
- December 8th, January 5th, and January 12th Sailings: The port call in Costa Maya, Mexico, has been canceled, and the ship will instead stay overnight in Roatan, Honduras.
- January 19th Sailing: The 10-night voyage will no longer visit Montego Bay, Jamaica, and will instead have an overnight stay in Roatan, Honduras.
These adjustments allow for essential maintenance to be carried out, ensuring the continued smooth operation of the Regal Princess.
Operational Context
Passengers booked on the affected sailings have been notified and offered options for a full refund, including pre-purchased tours and airfare, or sailing with a 20% future cruise credit. As a gesture of goodwill, Princess Cruises will keep the onboard casino open during the overnight stay in Roatan.
These itinerary changes follow earlier disruptions caused by an engine room fire in late September, which led to canceled voyages in October and November. While the ship resumed service in mid-November, further adjustments were deemed necessary to address ongoing technical issues.
