On May 29, 2023, a male passenger fell overboard approximately 185 miles (300 kilometers) east of Jacksonville, Florida, en route from The Bahamas to Virginia, United States. According to CCL’s statement, the man’s fiancee [redacted] reported him missing in the late afternoon.
An initial examination of the CCTV footage confirmed that the individual leaned over the balcony railing of his cabin and fell into the water at approximately 4:10 a.m. Florida time (8:10 UTC).
The ship initiated a search and rescue operation and was subsequently given permission to resume its voyage by the US Coast Guard. The corpse was not located. Later media reports identified the passenger as [redacted].
The incident occurred during the 5-day “Bahamas Cruise” (itinerary May 25-30, round-trip from Norfolk, Virginia) with call locations in Nassau (May 27) and Freeport (May 28).
