A 23-year-old crew member went overboard from Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Seas cruise ship on December 17th, 2024, during a Southern Caribbean cruise. The ship immediately initiated a search and rescue operation but was unable to locate the missing crew member.
The incident occurred while the Vision of the Seas was en route to Baltimore, Maryland. The ship activated its “Code OSCAR” protocol, signaling an overboard emergency, and deployed rescue boats. Passengers reported witnessing the search efforts, which were hampered by rough seas and eventually suspended due to darkness.
The missing crew member, a 23-year-old Mauritian man, was part of the ship’s maintenance team. The U.S. Coast Guard took over the search operation, allowing the Vision of the Seas to continue its journey to Baltimore.
