Speaker 1 (00:00):
Condition. More and more Queenslanders are being undercut by CTP insurance providers. That’s according to Carter Capner Law’s director, who says new government data shows 32% of car crash victims settled directly with insurers in the fourth quarter of last year. That’s instead of getting legal representation. A move Peter Carter says leaves victims open to deceptive practices.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
The share of claims that are handled directly by CTP insurers with the injury victim is steadily increasing, and claims settled direct are usually about one-eighth of the amount paid to claims represented by lawyers.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
The Insurance Council of Australia says there is greater awareness among claimants that claims can be settled directly by insurers, but reassures us that claims are assessed in accordance with the legislation.
