The daughter of a British man killed alongside his new wife in the Sea World Helicopters crash has filed a Supreme Court damages claim, describing her trauma at witnessing the mid-air collision and its harrowing aftermath.
Jane Manns had organised the joy flight for her father Ron Hughes and stepmother Diane Hughes, waving them off only to see their helicopter collide mid-air above Southport Broadwater in January 2023.
She told of frantically searching the sandbank where the wreckage landed, eventually recognising her stepmother’s body from a bracelet Diane had shown her days earlier.
The claim alleges that as a result of the violent deaths, Mrs Manns and her children suffered nervous shock, PTSD, depression, anxiety, nightmares, and loss of enjoyment of life.
Represented by Carter Capner Law, the case argues Sea World Helicopters failed to identify and mitigate obvious risks, with director Peter Carter calling the crash “an accident waiting to happen.”
