Aviation lawyer Peter Carter, representing passengers from Singapore Airlines Flight SQ321, has accused the airline of under-compensating victims of the severe turbulence incident that occurred in May 2024. Carter claims that Singapore Airlines is attempting to “low-ball” settlements, offering compensation far below what the injured passengers are legally entitled to. He alleges that the pilots knowingly flew too close to a developing thunderstorm, despite other aircraft diverting away from the danger, and as a result, the plane experienced extreme turbulence, causing numerous injuries and one fatality.
Carter advises passengers not to accept early settlement offers, warning that these payments require signing a release that could prevent passengers from claiming additional compensation for long-term medical effects. According to Carter, passengers could be entitled to significant compensation, possibly in the seven-figure range, based on their future medical evaluations and projected lifetime impairment. Singapore Airlines has offered advance payments and full refunds but has been criticized for offering settlement amounts that fall short of what is owed.
