Plenty of news today. A leading aviation and accident lawyer has repeated calls for legal reform. That’s following the crash of two light planes at Caboolture Airport last week. Peter Carter, director of Carter Capner Law, who is former national President of the Australian Lawyers Alliance, said that insurers in Queensland can avoid paying compensation for light aircraft crashes irrespective of fault due to a legal loophole. Following the Sea World helicopter crash, Mr. Carter revealed that an insurer can escape all liability even to seriously injured passengers on board under Queensland’s current Civil Liability Act that came into force in 2002. That allows people to argue that helicopter joy flights or flying a light aircraft are dangerous recreational activities.
