Speaker 1 (00:01):
People injured or families of those killed in light plane or helicopter crashes could be denied compensation they’re entitled to if a legal loophole isn’t closed. That’s according to aviation and personal injury lawyer Peter Carter, who says insurers can escape liability by declaring flying in light aircraft a dangerous recreational activity. His call comes in the wake of last week’s Caboolture plane crash, and he wants the law amended. It also comes after a much loved Central Queensland cattle producer was killed in a helicopter crash in the Central Highlands last April.
Peter Carter (00:34):
It’s real. It’s here now, and it’s very worthy of reform. It’s very easy to do. Just clarify, in the Civil Liability Act that light aircraft travel in Queensland is not regarded as a dangerous recreational activity.
