Introduction
A devastating event occurred aboard the MSC Virtuosa when a young female passenger tragically died after falling overboard near the Channel Islands.
Details of the Incident
In the early hours of October 12, 2024, at approximately 2 AM BST, a woman in her 20s went overboard in the waters north of Les Casquets, a sandstone ridge near Alderney Island. The ship immediately launched a search and rescue operation. Despite the swift response and recovery of the woman by a helicopter crew, she was later pronounced dead by medical professionals.
Response and Aftermath
The ship’s crew alerted passengers through a series of MOB (man overboard) alarms and later informed them via the PA system of the ongoing search efforts and subsequent delay in their scheduled arrival at Southampton. The passengers were also asked to pray for the woman during the critical search period.
