Introduction
On April 14, 2024, MSC Grandiosa experienced a critical overboard incident involving a female passenger while docked in Casablanca. The ship, which was nearing the end of a 19-day Transatlantic crossing, faced a delay due to the emergency.
Details of the Incident
At approximately 7:30 PM local time, a man overboard alert was triggered. Shortly after, it was announced that the individual had been recovered and was receiving medical attention in the ship’s infirmary. Despite efforts to rescue and revive her, early reports suggested that the woman, who allegedly jumped from her balcony on deck 13, was found unresponsive and motionless, raising concerns about the possibility of a fatal outcome.
Operational Context
The incident caused a delay in MSC Grandiosa’s departure from Casablanca, pushing back the scheduled 10 PM departure to midnight. The occurrence added a somber note to the cruise, which had made several stops in Brazil, the Canary Islands, and was set to continue to Spain. Authorities began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, as the ship’s crew and passengers dealt with the emotional impact of the event.
