Details of the Incident
During its September 20th to 27th Alaska Experience Cruise, the Radiance of the Seas reported that 180 passengers and 3 crew members experienced symptoms consistent with Norovirus, such as diarrhea and abdominal cramps. This represents 8.29% of the passengers and 0.34% of the crew aboard.
Medical Response and CDC Involvement
The ship’s medical team responded to the outbreak by providing care to affected individuals and implementing stringent sanitation measures to contain the spread of the illness. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has been notified and is involved in further investigating the outbreak to determine the specific pathogen responsible.
Impact on Cruise Itinerary
Despite the outbreak, the Radiance of the Seas continued its scheduled itinerary, visiting various ports in Alaska, including Sitka, Hoonah/Icy Strait Point, Juneau, and Ketchikan.
