An outbreak of gastrointestinal illness has been reported on Silversea Cruises’ Silver Ray, affecting 38 passengers and 5 crew members. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is monitoring the situation, and the cause of the outbreak is currently unknown.

The Silver Ray departed Callao, Peru, on January 4th, 2025, and is scheduled to arrive in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on January 20th. Silversea Cruises has implemented enhanced sanitation measures and is isolating affected individuals to contain the spread of the illness.

This is the second gastrointestinal illness outbreak reported on a cruise ship in 2025. The CDC documented 18 such outbreaks in 2024, highlighting the ongoing challenges of managing illness in the cruise industry.
