Circumstances:
On 6 November 2025, a Virgin Australia Boeing 737-8FE (WL), registration VH-YVD, arrived at Brisbane Airport after a scheduled flight from Darwin. Shortly after reaching the gate and coming to a stop, airport personnel noticed smoke and flames emanating from the aircraft’s brakes.
Airport fire and rescue crews were immediately dispatched to the scene. The fire was quickly extinguished with no injuries reported among passengers or crew. The aircraft sustained minor heat damage to the brake assemblies.
Video footage of the incident showed fire trucks surrounding the aircraft while crews inspected the left-main gear area. Early reports indicated that the fire was likely caused by brake overheating following landing. The incident did not disrupt airport operations, and the aircraft was later towed for maintenance inspection and safety clearance.
