Circumstances:

On May 4, 2025, a privately operated Auster J/2 Arrow overturned on a private grass airstrip near Tharwa in the Australian Capital Territory. The incident occurred at approximately 15:30 local time.

ACT emergency services responded to the scene after receiving reports of a light aircraft crash on a private runway off Tharwa Drive. Upon arrival, they found the single-engine fixed-wing aircraft upside down. The sole occupant, a male pilot, sustained minor injuries and was attended to by paramedics from the ACT Ambulance Service. He was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

The aircraft received minor damage as a result of the accident. Investigations into the cause of the crash are underway, with the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) involved in determining the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities have appealed for witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers to assist with the investigation.

While details remain limited, potential factors such as mechanical issues, environmental conditions, or operational errors may be examined during the investigation. This incident highlights the risks associated with operating light aircraft, particularly on private airstrips where infrastructure and support systems may be limited.
