On Friday night, September 27, 2024, a horrific crash occurred on the Newell Highway, approximately 35 kilometers south of Dubbo, near Tomingley, New South Wales. A ute and a van collided head-on, resulting in the deaths of all occupants except the ute driver.

Details of the Crash and Victims

Emergency services arrived at the scene to find a scene of devastation. Two young men from Molong, Lochie Jacobs (18) and Joey Urban (19), who were passengers in the ute, were tragically killed. The occupants of the van, a 57-year-old couple from Parkes, Sue and Graham Tait, also lost their lives in the collision. The 23-year-old driver of the ute was the sole survivor and was taken to Dubbo Hospital with leg injuries.

Charges Laid

After being discharged from the hospital, the driver of the ute was arrested and charged with four counts of dangerous driving causing death. He also faces charges for driving while not wearing a seatbelt properly and for having two passengers who were not properly restrained by seatbelts. He was granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear before Dubbo Local Court on October 21st.

Community Impact and Fundraising Efforts

The tragic crash has deeply affected the communities of Molong and Parkes. Friends and family are mourning the loss of the four victims. The Seale family, close friends of Lochie Jacobs and Joey Urban, have launched a fundraising campaign to help cover the costs associated with the tragedy. The campaign has already raised more than $40,000. A separate online fundraiser has also been set up to support the Tait family and their five children.
