Incident Overview
Police have charged a 33-year-old man following investigations into a fatal three-vehicle crash on Shute Harbour Road in Cannon Valley earlier this year.

At approximately 10:24 am on July 28, 2025, a white Isuzu light truck travelling south collided with a red Isuzu D-Max utility and a white Mercedes-Benz motorhome.

The driver and sole occupant of the D-Max, a 63-year-old Shute Harbour man, died at the scene. Four people inside the motorhome sustained minor injuries and were transported to Proserpine Hospital for treatment.

Following a comprehensive investigation by the Forensic Crash Unit (FCU), police have now charged a 33-year-old Mornington man in connection with the crash.

He is due to appear before the Proserpine Magistrates Court on 24 November 2025.

  • The deceased driver of the utility was pronounced dead at the scene, and his vehicle sustained catastrophic damage.

Police Investigation
The Forensic Crash Unit (FCU) led the investigation into the collision, focusing on:

  • The sequence of impact between the three vehicles and their positioning on the roadway.
  • Whether speed, driver impairment, or distraction contributed to the crash.
  • Toxicology results confirming the presence of a **relevant drug** in the charged driver’s system.
  • Vehicle condition and compliance checks for all involved vehicles.
  • Dashcam footage and witness statements from drivers travelling between **10:00 am and 10:30 am** along Shute Harbour Road.

Police subsequently charged the 33-year-old driver with:

Driving without due care and attention causing death; and

Driving with a relevant drug in his blood while unlicensed.

He remains on bail pending his upcoming court appearance.
