Introduction
A contractor working at the Callide Power Station in Mount Murchison, Queensland, sustained burns to his feet in a workplace accident on Friday evening. This incident occurred on the same day a separate technical fault forced the shutdown of the C3 generator.
Incident Details
The injured contractor was working on the overhaul of Unit B1 when the accident occurred. He was promptly taken to the hospital for treatment. CS Energy, the co-owner of Callide C, has prioritized the safety of all personnel and is working with the subcontractor to provide support to the injured individual.
Technical Fault and Shutdown
In an unrelated incident, a technical fault in one of the battery chargers of Unit C3 led to its shutdown on the same day. CS Energy is investigating the cause of the fault and assessing the necessary repairs or equipment replacements. The company has notified Workplace Health and Safety Queensland and the Australian Energy Market Operator about the incident.
Callide Power Station’s Troubled History
The Callide Power Station has faced several challenges in recent times. Unit C3 had only recently resumed operations after the reconstruction of a new cooling tower, and Unit C4 is still undergoing repairs following a 2021 explosion that caused widespread blackouts in Queensland. Currently, only Unit B2 remains operational.
