Introduction
A man in his 60s has died following a workplace accident in Western Australia’s Goldfields region. The fatal incident occurred on Sunday morning while the man was helping move a transportable home on a vacant property in South Kalgoorlie.
Details of the Incident
Emergency services were called to the scene just before 10am after reports that a worker had suffered critical injuries while manoeuvring a large transportable donga onto a truck trailer.
Paramedics from St John WA treated the man at the scene before transporting him to Kalgoorlie Health Campus, where he was later pronounced dead.
Photos from the scene show a red truck with a donga perched ajar on its trailer, cordoned off by orange safety tape as investigators examined the site.
Regulatory Response
A WorkSafe WA spokesperson confirmed the agency had been notified and launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
Preliminary reports indicate the man was engaged in moving a transportable home when he was fatally injured. WorkSafe said multiple companies may have been involved in the relocation process but had not yet identified them publicly.
Inspectors will review safety practices surrounding the lifting and securing of heavy transportable structures — a recurring hazard in regional construction and logistics operations.
Workplace Safety Context
Transportable and modular home movements are common across the Goldfields, particularly in residential and mining support developments. Such operations require strict adherence to mechanical safety standards, including load stability, vehicle clearance checks, and supervision by qualified riggers.
WorkSafe WA has previously issued safety alerts reminding operators to ensure lifting and anchoring mechanisms are properly rated and inspected before transport.
Failures in load balance or anchorage can lead to crushing injuries, making this one of the most dangerous phases of modular construction work.
Conclusion
The man’s death adds to a growing number of workplace fatalities across Western Australia’s regional construction sector in 2025. Investigations are continuing to determine whether proper safety controls were in place at the South Kalgoorlie site. A report will be prepared for the WA Coroner.
