Introduction
A man in his 60s has died following a workplace accident in Western Australia’s Goldfields, after sustaining critical injuries while moving a transportable home in South Kalgoorlie on Sunday morning.

Details of the Incident
Emergency services were called to a vacant block in South Kalgoorlie just before 10am on November 2, following reports of a worker being seriously injured during a worksite operation involving a transportable home.

The man was treated at the scene before being taken by St John WA paramedics to Kalgoorlie Health Campus, where he later died from his injuries.

Photographs from the scene showed a donga (portable accommodation unit) sitting ajar on a truck trailer, surrounded by safety tape as emergency crews secured the site.

WorkSafe Investigation
A spokesperson for WorkSafe WA confirmed the regulator had received a report about the fatality and had commenced an investigation.

According to preliminary findings, the man was moving a transportable home at the time of the incident. WorkSafe said more than one company is believed to have been involved in the operation, though none have yet been publicly identified.

Inspectors remain on-site gathering evidence and statements as part of the investigation into whether safety procedures and lifting protocols were properly followed.

Community and Industry Context
The incident occurred in a residential area undergoing development, where transportable homes are commonly installed for temporary or modular housing projects. These operations often involve heavy machinery and require strict safety controls to prevent crush or stability hazards during unloading or relocation.

WorkSafe WA has recorded multiple incidents in recent years involving fatalities during transportable and donga movements, prompting repeated calls for stricter training and compliance checks across regional construction and logistics contractors.

Conclusion
Authorities are now preparing a report for the WA Coroner as investigations continue. The death adds to a growing number of workplace fatalities in Western Australia’s regional construction and logistics sectors, with regulators reiterating the importance of maintaining safe systems of work in high-risk environments.
