The incident took place at the Moorvale open-cut coal mine near Coppabella. A young man, whose precise age remains undisclosed, was struck by a falling tyre while performing maintenance tasks. The accident occurred shortly after 1 PM on Monday.
Current Status and Medical Response
Paramedics responded to the scene, describing the injuries as significant to the lower leg. The injured worker was stabilized at the site and then airlifted to Mackay Hospital for further treatment, where he is currently reported to be in stable condition.
Investigation and Safety Measures
Resources Safety and Health Queensland (RSHQ) has been notified and has deployed an inspector to the site to conduct a thorough investigation. Additionally, directives have been issued to the mine operators to isolate the area of the incident to ensure the safety of other workers and to facilitate the investigation.

Peabody Energy, the mining company overseeing the operations, has confirmed the incident and is cooperating fully with RSHQ’s investigation.
