Introduction
A man has been killed in a workplace incident at the Port of Brisbane after a bulldozer rolled at a cement handling site, prompting an investigation by Queensland’s workplace safety regulator. Emergency crews were called to the scene early in the morning as authorities worked to stabilise the heavy machinery.
Details of the Incident
The fatal incident occurred at a worksite on Bulk Terminals Drive at the Port of Brisbane at about 6.20am on Friday.
Paramedics were called after reports a worker had been injured in a machinery-related incident involving a bulldozer. Firefighters were subsequently requested to stabilise the rolled machine while recovery operations took place.
Aerial footage from the scene showed the bulldozer had rolled and appeared to have collided with another piece of large machinery. The machine was later seen propped up with a jack.
Emergency Response
Queensland Ambulance Service and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services attended the scene. Despite emergency efforts, the man — who was in a life-threatening condition — was declared dead at the worksite.
The worker has not yet been formally identified.
Investigation Underway
Queensland Police confirmed they are working alongside Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatality.
In a statement, WHSQ said inspectors were on site and had commenced inquiries.
“WHSQ inspectors are onsite and inquiries into the incident are underway. As this is an active investigation, no further comment can be made at this time,” a spokesperson said.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
Conclusion
The death marks another serious workplace incident involving heavy machinery and underscores the risks faced by workers in industrial port environments. Investigators will examine the cause of the bulldozer rollover, including equipment operation, site conditions and safety controls, as part of the ongoing inquiry.
