Introduction
Two Victorian companies, AH Vision Pty Ltd and Cutri Fruit Pty Ltd, face charges following a fatal workplace accident in Woorinen South in 2022, where a 70-year-old employee suffered fatal head injuries.
Details of the Incident
In January 2022, the employee fell off a trailer attached to a tractor near Swan Hill, sustaining serious head injuries. He was employed by contractor AH Vision Pty Ltd and was working for Cutri Fruit Pty Ltd at the time.
Operational Context
WorkSafe alleges that Cutri Fruit failed to provide a safe system of work and necessary information and training to workers. The company faces five charges under the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act for not ensuring the safety of individuals other than employees. AH Vision is charged with failing to provide adequate instruction and training to employees.
Court’s Decision and Impact on Victims
Both companies are charged with several offences relating to the fatal incident. AH Vision also faces charges for failing to provide WorkSafe with required information and documents. The case is scheduled for a filing hearing at Swan Hill Magistrates Court on January 24.
