Introduction
The Spirit of Tasmania V ferry, currently under construction at Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) shipyard in Finland, broke free from its moorings during hurricane-force winds on November 2, 2024. The vessel made contact with a dock, but thankfully, no injuries or environmental damage were reported.

Details of the Incident
The incident occurred amid extreme weather conditions, described as the first known hurricane in the area. Despite precautionary measures taken by the shipyard, including additional ropes and an emergency team, the strong winds caused the ferry to break free and drift against an embankment.

Operational Context
TT-Line, the operator of the Spirit of Tasmania ferries, confirmed that the vessel is afloat, safe, and secured. While a full damage assessment is pending, initial reports suggest no hull breach. Three tugboats are assisting the ferry, and it will be moved to a layup berth at RMC as soon as weather conditions allow. RMC has confirmed no injuries, leaks, or environmental impact.
