Introduction
On March 23, 2025, a crew member aboard the luxury expedition ship Seabourn Venture required urgent medical evacuation approximately 100 miles north of Tenerife, Spain. The Seabourn Venture crew medevac, coordinated by Tenerife’s Maritime Rescue Centre, underscores the logistical challenges of emergency response in remote maritime regions and the critical role of air rescue operations.

Details of the Incident
The Seabourn Venture issued a distress alert on March 23, 2025, prompting Tenerife’s Maritime Rescue Centre to deploy the Helimer 202 rescue helicopter. The aircraft reached the vessel at approximately 8:40 AM UTC, successfully hoisting the affected crew member and an accompanying nurse. The individual was transported to Doctor Negrín Hospital in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for treatment.

Authorities have not disclosed the crew member’s identity, nationality, medical condition, or the circumstances leading to the emergency. The evacuation occurred while the ship was sailing in the Atlantic Ocean, 160 kilometers (100 miles) north of Tenerife in the Canary Islands.

Response and Impact
Seabourn Cruises confirmed the medevac operation but refrained from commenting on the crew member’s status, citing privacy protocols. The Seabourn Venture resumed its voyage following the incident, with no reported disruptions to its itinerary. Maritime safety experts emphasized the efficiency of the coordinated rescue effort, which leveraged Spain’s Helimer emergency aviation resources.
