Introduction
In a frustrating turn of events for passengers and Princess Cruises, the Regal Princess has canceled its third consecutive sailing due to persistent technical problems with the ship’s power generators. The November 10th departure from Galveston, Texas, was scrapped despite earlier assurances that repairs were on track.
Details of the Incident
The cancellations, which began with the October 27th sailing, stem from recurring issues with the ship’s power generation system. While one generator problem was reportedly resolved, a subsequent fault in another generator has necessitated further repairs to ensure the vessel’s safe operation. This latest cancellation affects a 7-night Western Caribbean itinerary with planned calls at Cozumel, Costa Maya, and Roatan.
Operational Context
These repeated cancellations have caused significant disruption to passengers’ travel plans, particularly those eager to embark on the popular Western Caribbean itinerary. Princess Cruises has expressed regret for the inconvenience and is working to address the technical issues promptly. The cruise line is providing full refunds and an enhanced future cruise credit (FCC) of 50% to passengers booked on the November 10th sailing, an increase from the 25% FCC offered for the previous two cancellations. It remains unclear whether this increased compensation will be extended retroactively to guests affected by the earlier cancellations.
