Introduction
On March 11, 2024, passengers aboard the Carnival Legend experienced a significant power outage that affected the ship’s propulsion and onboard systems, including in-cabin amenities. The incident, which lasted approximately 45-60 minutes, occurred while the ship was on a 7-day Bahamas cruise departing from Baltimore.
Details of the Incident
The power loss happened in the morning between 9-10 AM, impacting various ship functions and leaving areas like the Truffles Dining Room without lighting. By around 10:30 AM, as passengers attended brunch, partial power was restored, and full functionality returned shortly after, illuminating the previously darkened dining area. This event follows a similar power issue that occurred on the vessel in February, raising concerns about the ship’s electrical systems ahead of its scheduled dry dock in England later April.
Operational Context
Carnival Legend’s power outage took place during a “The Bahamas Cruise,” affecting guests’ comfort and the ship’s operational capabilities. The incident underscores the importance of maintaining and inspecting cruise ships’ technical systems to ensure passenger safety and minimize disruptions to travel plans.
