In a tragic event on December 30, 2023, a 32-year-old male passenger, Carlos Alberto Mota Candreva, went overboard from MSC Preziosa while the ship was en route from Port Santos/Sao Paulo, Brazil, to Angra dos Reis. The incident, reportedly occurring after an argument with his girlfriend, led to an extensive search and rescue operation involving the ship’s crew, the Brazilian Coast Guard, and the Brazilian Navy.

Details of the Incident

The overboard incident happened around 12:30 AM local time (12:30 AM UTC). MSC announced that Candreva intentionally jumped overboard from his cabin’s balcony. Following the incident, MSC Preziosa deployed two rescue boats and commenced a search and rescue operation. The Brazilian Coast Guard and Navy joined the efforts. After approximately two hours of searching, the ship was released to continue its voyage. Unfortunately, Candreva’s body was not found.
