Introduction
Marella Cruises has canceled the November 7th departure of the Marella Explorer 2 from Malaga, Spain, due to an extended drydock period in Cadiz. The ship was undergoing a refurbishment at the Navantia Shipyard, but adverse weather in Southern Spain caused delays in the project timeline.
Details of the Incident
The canceled 7-day “Spanish Flavours” itinerary was scheduled to visit Palamos, Palma de Mallorca, Valencia, Cartagena, and Gibraltar. The extended drydock, necessitated by the weather-related delays, prevented the ship from being ready for its scheduled departure.
Operational Context
Marella Cruises is offering affected passengers a choice of compensation options:
- A full monetary refund (100%) plus GBP 100.
- A full refund (100%) plus a GBP 200 per person discount on a future Marella Cruises voyage.
- A full refund (100%) plus a GBP 150 per person discount on a TUI holiday.
These compensation options are valid for bookings made by November 18th.
