Introduction
During the inaugural preview sailing of Star of the Seas on August 14, 2025, a man-overboard alarm was triggered at Royal Caribbean’s private island Perfect Day at CocoCay. The alarm, broadcast as “Oscar, Oscar, Oscar,” was activated after a guest fell from the pier linking Star of the Seas and Symphony of the Seas. The guest was safely rescued minutes later with no serious injuries reported.

How the Fall Occurred:

  • The guest reportedly lost balance while attempting to film footage of Star OTS using his phone.
  • Witnesses stated that he toppled from the connecting pier into the surrounding waters of CocoCay.

Emergency Response:

  • The ship’s crew immediately initiated man-overboard procedures, sounding the “Oscar” alarm and deploying rescue assets.
  • Life rings were thrown toward the passenger, who was able to grab one while awaiting recovery.
  • A rescue jet ski was dispatched and retrieved the guest within minutes, returning him safely to shore.
  • No major injuries were reported, though medical staff evaluated the individual as a precaution.

  • The company confirmed the guest fell from the pier while recording video and praised the fast actions of the rescue team.
  • Royal Caribbean emphasized that the guest was brought back to shore quickly and safely, with no lasting harm.

Voyage and Operational Context:

  • The incident occurred during Star of the Seas’ inaugural preview cruise, which had departed from Port Canaveral earlier in the week.
  • At the time, the vessel was docked alongside Symphony of the Seas, which was sailing a 7-night Bahamas itinerary from Cape Liberty, New Jersey.
