Introduction
Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas has experienced a two-day delay to its transatlantic cruise departure from Barcelona, Spain due to severe rain and flooding in Cadiz, where the ship is undergoing scheduled maintenance. The adverse weather has impacted the drydock operations, necessitating adjustments to the itinerary.
Details of the Incident
Originally scheduled to depart on November 24th, 2024, the Adventure of the Seas will now depart on November 26th. As a result of the delay, three Spanish ports of call – Valencia, Malaga, and Seville – have been removed from the itinerary. The revised itinerary includes an extended period at sea and a single port of call in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal on November 29th.
Operational Context
Royal Caribbean is offering several forms of compensation to affected passengers, including:
- Partial Refunds: Two days of cruise fare will be refunded as onboard credit, along with pro-rated refunds for pre-paid packages and gratuities.
- Travel Accommodations: Reimbursement for air change fees or one night of hotel accommodation.
- Crown and Anchor Points: Loyalty program points will be awarded based on the original itinerary length.
Unused onboard credit refunds will be processed within 14 business days after the cruise. The Adventure of the Seas is still expected to arrive in Port Canaveral, Florida, as scheduled on December 7th, 2024, and will resume its Caribbean itineraries thereafter.
