The ship caught fire on May 28, 2023, at 3:15 a.m. local time (17:15 UTC) while anchored in Batemans Bay, New South Wales, Australia. The Pacific Adventure was carrying 3017 passengers and 1080 crew members.

The fire, which purportedly began on a cabin veranda due to a lit cigarette, was contained to a single stateroom. The fire was quickly contained, and no injuries were reported.

All passengers were dispatched to the muster stations in accordance with the emergency response plan on board. They were allowed to return to their cabins at approximately 5:20 am NWS (19:20 UTC).

The mishap occurred during the three-day “Comedy Cruise” (itinerary May 27-30), which was a “cruise to nowhere” voyage from Sydney, New South Wales, and did not make any port calls.
