Introduction
On June 25, 2024, while docked at the Costa Maya Cruise Dock in Mexico, Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas experienced an engine room fire resulting in a temporary loss of power and a brief disruption to operations.

Details of the Incident
The fire broke out in the afternoon, causing a complete power outage throughout the vessel. The ship’s onboard firefighting teams successfully extinguished the blaze, and backup generators were activated to restore partial power. Subsequently, the main engine-generated electricity was brought back online. Passenger reports indicate the power outage lasted approximately 20 minutes.

During the incident, two emergency codes were announced over the ship’s PA system: “BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO” (onboard fire) followed by “ALPHA ALPHA ALPHA” (medical emergency). The medical emergency reportedly occurred at the aft gangway, although details about the incident were not officially disclosed.

The fire and subsequent power outage led to a temporary suspension of passenger embarkation and disembarkation procedures, with gangways closed for about an hour. Crew members remained at their muster stations for approximately 1 to 1.5 hours.

Operational Context
The incident occurred during the 7-day “Western Caribbean and Perfect Day Cruise” itinerary. Despite the disruption, the ship’s itinerary remained unaffected, with subsequent stops in Cozumel (Mexico) and CocoCay (Bahamas) proceeding as scheduled.
