Introduction
MSC Bellissima experienced an engine failure that prevented its departure from Naha, Okinawa, disrupting a 5-day cruise from Keelung Port, Taiwan. The incident left approximately 1,880 Taiwanese passengers stranded and forced the cancellation of the subsequent cruise.

Details of the Incident
The MSC Bellissima departed Keelung on December 4th, 2024, for a 5-day itinerary with planned calls at Miyako, Naha, and Ishigaki Island. However, an engine failure in Naha prevented the ship from continuing its voyage.

Operational Context
MSC Cruises responded to the disruption by arranging charter flights to repatriate passengers to Taiwan and offering reimbursement for those who opted to arrange their own return travel. The cruise line also provided compensation to affected passengers, including full refunds and future cruise discounts.

The engine issues also impacted the subsequent cruise, which was scheduled to embark from Keelung on December 8th. With repairs underway, the ship is not expected to return to Keelung until December 10th.
