Introduction

In a critical operation on October 5, 2024, the US Coast Guard was dispatched for the medical evacuation of two elderly passengers from the Crown Princess, underlining the urgent health concerns that can arise during sea voyages.

Details of the Incident

The Crown Princess, situated approximately 50 miles off Cape Kumukahi on Hawaii’s Big Island, became the site of a dramatic rescue operation. The Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu received distress calls concerning two passengers: a 70-year-old man with symptoms of a heart attack and an 86-year-old man suffering from internal bleeding. The severity of their conditions prompted immediate action.

Rescue Operation and Outcome

Coordinated by the US Coast Guard, the rescue involved deploying a Eurocopter MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Barbers Point. The operations team successfully hoisted both patients aboard the helicopter in separate lifts. They were then transported to Hilo Medical Center, where they arrived in stable condition, receiving necessary medical care promptly.
