Introduction
On 18/07/2023, during a routine port stay in Port Kerkyra, Corfu Island, Greece, a 48-year-old male crew member required emergency medical attention and was subsequently disembarked for treatment. The crew member, serving as an Assistant Refrigeration Engineer, suffered an injury to his right-hand finger during his duties.
Nature of Injury
The Assistant Refrigeration Engineer sustained an injury to his right-hand finger while attending to equipment onboard.
Medical Response
Given the nature and severity of the injury, the decision was made to offload the crew member. He was then admitted to a private clinic in the vicinity for the necessary medical care.
Context of the Incident
The injury took place during the course of the “Greece and Croatia Cruise”, a 7-day voyage spanning from July 15 to July 22, with a travel route from Athens to Ravenna. The journey included stops at several locations, including Mykonos Island and Corfu Island in Greece, and Dubrovnik, Zadar, and Split in Croatia. The incident specifically occurred during the ship’s scheduled stop at Corfu Island.
