Introduction
On July 9, 2024, two passengers were medevaced from Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas in La Romana, Dominican Republic, resulting in a slight delay in the ship’s departure.
Details of the Incident
While passengers were still boarding the ship following shore excursions, an ambulance arrived to transport one passenger to a local hospital. Shortly before the scheduled departure time of 6:00 p.m. EST, a second ambulance arrived and a female passenger was disembarked and transported to a medical facility, accompanied by her family. The ship eventually departed approximately 15 minutes behind schedule.
Operational Context
The incident occurred during the 9-day “Bermuda and Eastern Caribbean Cruise” itinerary, which included stops in Bermuda, Grand Turk, and the Dominican Republic. Despite the medical evacuations and minor delay, the incident did not affect the remainder of the ship’s itinerary, including the subsequent stop in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.
