Introduction
A 26-year-old female crew member was airlifted by the U.S. Coast Guard from Royal Caribbean’s Navigator of the Seas, demonstrating swift action to address medical emergencies at sea. The incident occurred approximately 30 miles west of San Diego, California.
Details of the Incident
The medical emergency unfolded in the early hours of Thursday, August 29, when the crew member experienced severe lower abdominal pain. The Navigator of the Seas promptly contacted the Coast Guard Sector San Diego at 12:10 a.m., initiating a critical response.
Rescue Operation
An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station San Diego was dispatched to the cruise ship’s location. The Coast Guard aircrew managed to hoist the affected crew member aboard the helicopter and transported her to the Coast Guard Air Station. She was subsequently transferred to Hillcrest Medical Center at the University of California, San Diego, where she was reported to be in stable condition.
