Introduction
A 72-year-old man is believed to have gone overboard from the Ruby Princess cruise ship as it approached San Francisco, California, early on December 2, 2024. An extensive search by the U.S. Coast Guard has been underway.

Details of the Incident
The Ruby Princess was returning from a 5-day roundtrip cruise to Ensenada, Mexico, when the passenger was reported missing. The ship docked in San Francisco at approximately 6:50 a.m. on December 2nd. Despite thorough searches of the vessel and a review of security footage, the man could not be located.

Operational Context
The U.S. Coast Guard launched a search operation involving a C-27 aircraft from Sacramento and a helicopter from San Francisco. As of late Monday, the passenger had not been found, and the Coast Guard was considering suspending the search pending new developments. The incident is under investigation by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
