Circumstances:
A Eurocopter Helicopter – manufactured by Airbus – collided with terrain near Mount Disappointment en route to Tocumwal in Victoria from Mt Beauty. All 5 occupants on the private charter died.
The accident appears to have occurred as a result of the aircraft entering cloud despite it being a VFR (Visual Flight Rules) operation.
Such occurrence is the most frequent cause of avoidable aircraft fatalities and involve pilots who lack the training, experience and recency flying into such conditions.
The crashes of helicopters in July (Maroota NSW), October (Casino, NSW; Booralaming, WA) and November (Glyde River, NT) each killed their pilots.
