Circumstances:

**A de Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk, registered as VH-POR, experienced a critical incident during takeoff at Jandakot Airport, resulting in a crash with the aircraft impacting the ground with little forward momentum and the port wing low. The 73-year-old pilot, who was the sole occupant, issued a mayday call shortly after being cleared for takeoff, indicating immediate distress. Emergency services responded promptly, and the pilot was transported to Royal Perth Hospital with serious injuries. Approximately seven fire trucks and multiple emergency personnel were involved in the response. A witness reported that the aircraft appeared to lose power just after takeoff, leading to the crash. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau will be investigating the incident to determine the contributing factors and possible mechanical failures involved.**
