Circumstances:

The helicopter departed Yorke Island Airport in Queensland and was in the initial climb phase when the low rotor RPM horn activated shortly after take-off.

In response, the pilot conducted an emergency landing. During the landing sequence, the helicopter collided with terrain near the airport.

The Robinson R44 II sustained substantial damage in the occurrence. The pilot, who was the sole occupant, sustained serious injuries.
