Circumstances:

The aircraft was in the cruise phase of a private flight from Numbulwar Airport to Katherine-Tindal Airport when the engine failed. In response, the pilot began a forced landing and manoeuvred the aircraft toward a suitable landing area.

During the descent, the Piper PA-32R collided with terrain. Emergency responders were notified, and while no fatalities occurred, the aircraft sustained substantial structural damage.

The ATSB received the report and documented the occurrence in accordance with standard aviation safety monitoring procedures.
