Circumstances:
On August 19, 2025, a privately operated Jabiru aircraft was involved in a ground accident at Latrobe Regional Airport, Victoria.
While the aircraft was stationary, the pilot attempted to retrieve a box inside the cockpit. During this movement, the pilot fell out of the aircraft and inadvertently pushed the throttle forward. With no one at the controls, the Jabiru began moving across the apron.
The uncontrolled aircraft collided with a hangar, resulting in substantial damage both to the Jabiru and the building. A second aircraft inside or adjacent to the hangar also sustained damage.
No injuries were reported. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) was notified and confirmed the occurrence.
This unusual accident highlights the risks associated with ground handling and cockpit movement in light aircraft, particularly when engines are running.
