Circumstances:

A Cessna 525B Citation CJ3, operated by Tropicair Ltd, experienced an in-flight emergency during a test flight. The aircraft had been undergoing maintenance and modifications at Essendon Fields Airport for nearly 10 months.

During the test flight, the aircraft’s transponders were observed transmitting a code 7700, which indicates an emergency situation. Reports suggest that the aircraft suffered a total electrical failure, although this has not been officially confirmed.

The aircraft, originally intended to depart and arrive at Essendon Fields Airport, diverted to Avalon Airport. There were unconfirmed reports of a potential issue with the undercarriage, but the aircraft landed safely on runway 36.

The aircraft remains grounded at Avalon Airport pending further investigation and rectification of the reported faults. The incident highlights the importance of thorough maintenance and testing procedures to ensure the safe return to service of aircraft after extended periods of maintenance or modification.
