Circumstances:

On September 28, 2025, a gyroplane crashed on a private property near Nebo Creek, west of Mackay, Queensland. The aircraft came down around 18:00 local time.

The 47-year-old pilot, who was the sole occupant, died at the scene. Emergency crews, including fire services, responded after the crash ignited a grass fire in the surrounding area. The aircraft sustained substantial damage.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) confirmed that as the aircraft involved was a gyroplane, it fell under the sports aircraft category, and therefore outside its formal investigation remit. Instead, Queensland Police’s Forensic Crash Unit is leading inquiries into the accident.

Police stated that a report will be prepared for the coroner.
