Circumstances:

On April 10, 2025, an Acecore UAV (Remotely Piloted Aircraft System) was conducting aerial survey operations approximately 36.5 kilometers northwest of Canberra Aerodrome in New South Wales, Australia. During the en route phase of the flight, the aircraft experienced an engine failure, leading to a loss of control.

The UAV subsequently collided with terrain, resulting in substantial damage to the aircraft. No injuries or fatalities were reported, as the aircraft was unmanned. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is investigating the incident to determine the cause of the engine failure and assess operational factors that may have contributed to the accident.

The investigation will focus on technical aspects such as engine performance, maintenance history, and environmental conditions at the time of the incident. This accident highlights the risks associated with unmanned aerial operations in remote or challenging environments, particularly during critical phases of flight.
