Circumstances:

On August 24, 2025, a DJI remotely piloted aircraft system (RPAS) was conducting aerial survey operations near Kununurra, Western Australia. At approximately 11:40 local time, while manoeuvring, the RPAS collided with rocky terrain.

The impact destroyed the drone. There were no injuries or reports of third-party property damage. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) recorded the occurrence and classified it as an RPAS accident resulting in total loss of the aircraft.

This event highlights the risk of operating drones in rugged survey environments where natural obstacles such as rock formations can pose hazards to flight paths, particularly during low-altitude manoeuvres.
